Hello members of FDSN WG III.

As we start preparing for the FDSN meetings in Kobe (July 30-August 4) I would like to have members of WG III submit topics they would like to have considered for the FDSN WG III Agenda. Please send your ideas to me by the end of March and I will produce a draft agenda.

I do not have an indication of when the WG meeting will be at this time but I am sure we will know sometime in the next few months.

Thanks for your help in this small issue.

Hi Tim and WG III members,

For the Kobe meeting, I propose an agenda item to discuss an FDSN web services registry.

Currently the official list of FDSN data center web service end points is maintained in HTML here: http://www.fdsn.org/webservices/datacenters/. The IRIS DMC and others have identified needs to expose this information in a more machine readable way, e.g. JSON or XML. Furthermore, the FDSN would likely benefit from a service registry that allows registration of non-FDSN standardized web services and contains richer metadata (e.g. network code ownership) than the current web page provides.

One idea is for the discussion to include proposals for registry systems to be adopted. If there are no proposals or a consensus on a solution is not found an ad hoc working group can be formed to continue the work of identifying the right solution for the FDSN and report back to WG III.

    regards,
    Chad
