Geology: The YKA array is located on granite of the Slave Province of the Pre-Cambrian Canadian Shield.
Vault Conditions: Tunnel blasted into rising topography. Unheated instrument room 30 meters back from the tunnel opening. Concrete pier poured directly onto bedrock.
Site Description: The Yellowknife array is located on the north-central part of the North American craton. The nearest significant seismicity occurs about 450 km west of Yellowknife in the MacKenzie Mountains seimic zone. Mine blasts from gold mines within 10-20 km of YKA are recorded daily.
