Site Description: TEIG is located in a densely wooded area about 50 meters from a 2-lane paved highway. the highway is lightly trafficked with mostly semi-trucks and tourist buses along with some small cars and local traffic. the local topography is very flat. the site is a small (10m x 10m) fenced-in area with an even smaller (2m x 3m) building for the recording equipment. there are 2 boreholes within the compound, a 100m+ one holds the KS borehole instrument. the shallower (test hole) is not instrumented at this time. a VSAT antenna connects the station to the UNAM in Mexico city. there is no phone line available for dial-up modem connectivity. the site is located approx .5 KM from the small town of Tepich, and the nearest town with any accommodation (and phones, etc) is Valladolid, which is about 100 KM distant. the nearest major cities are Cancun and Merida, both about a days drive in opposite directions from Valladolid. The Mayan ruins Chichen-itza are nearby. | |
