Greetings Everyone

The deadline for indicating interest in attending a meeting discussing the future evolution of miniSeed was last Friday. It turns out that rooms are quite limited for meetings at the EGU.

We were able to reserve
Room 2.17 available from
8:30 to 12:00 noon on
Thursday 21 April 2016

There will be two topics for discussion, both which include the FDSN membership and manufacturers of equipment as key stakeholders.

1. 8:30 - 10:30 The goal is to identify features the next generation of miniSeed should address. Ultimately a straw man solution may be developed to serve as a starting point for a new time series format, and then we recommend that a Request for Comment (RFC) process allows for the evolution of a new specification for a time series representation.

2. 10:45 - noon After discussions with Bruce Beaudoin, the Chair of WG V, we have decided to discuss a second topic. .
Discussions concerning the identification of State of Health information that should be available from acquisition systems (data logers and seismometers)
The attachment discusses some initial thoughts on important SOH information from Bruce.

I look forward to seeing many of you in Vienna. If you are still interested in attending please let Bruce (Bruce Beaudoin <bruce<at>passcal.nmt.edu <bruce<at>passcal.nmt.edu>>), Gale Cox <gale<at>iris.washington.edu <gale<at>iris.washington.edu>>, and me know and the room will likely be able to accommodate you.

Cheers

    Hello Tim,

It is not in the cards for me to attend the meeting in Vienna, but I am hoping that a summary or sense of the discussion will be disseminated to the WG-II list.

    Best,

Hi Dan, we will attempt to capture the discussion and establish a longer term conversation about it using the RFC procedure. So you will still have your chance to make comments and improve the system
