Geology: Granite bedrock of Triassic age.
Vault Conditions: The vault is made of reinforced concrete, rests on granite bedrock and is covered with dirt. The piers are constructed of concrete slabs and are isolated from the floor by a 3 inch barrier of tar. Metal tanks containing seismometers are bolted to piers. Temperature in the vault averages 26C. Humidity is high but non-condensing.
