Start year 2021 Operated by
  • Victoria University
End year 2023 Deployment region -
Description

SALSA is part of a combined network of approximately 45 seismometers at 10 km spacing along the Alpine Fault in the South Island of New Zealand from Milford Sound to Maruia. SALSA was designed to record the ambient seismic field for virtual earthquake analysis and calculation of regional ground motions. SALSA was active for roughly two years using instruments provided by PASSCAL, Victoria University of Wellington and Harvard. Additional short-period stations were deployed to complement other Victoria University of Wellington networks for microseismicity analyses.

Funding for this project over three years was provided by the Marsden Fund of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Te Apārangi.
