Description

As part of the SUBMERSE project, a DAS interrogator has been deployed to sense a dark fibre between Preveza (Greece) and Crotone (Italy) through the Ionian Sea. The interrogated sector of the fibre extends from Preveza (land station where an ASN OptoDAS interrogator is installed) to the seabed over a distance of about 100 km. The fibre used is provided by ISLALINK, which operates the IONIAN submarine system, covering a total distance of approximately 300 km without intermediate repeaters. The actual data set includes decimated data at 100 Hz and 1 km spatial sampling streamed in real-time to the NOA data centre using a dedicated SeisComP plugin. The dataset is used to test the extension of real-time monitoring capabilities for earthquakes (e.g. for the Hellenic and Kefalonia transform zone) and other natural hazards in the region, as well as to test oceanographic applications. The locations of the virtual receivers are only indicative, precise coordinates can only be provided upon signature of the NDA with the cable operator following the data request addressed to the NOA Data Centre
