FDSN Network Information

FDSN code XZ (2013-2013) Network name Gulf of Mexico USGS Hydrates (GoM Hydrates)
Start year 2013 Operated by
  • USGS Woods Hole, United States of America
End year 2013 Deployment region
Description

The USGS has acquired OBS and high-resolution 2D streamer data at two sites in the Gulf of Mexico where gas hydrates are known to exist below the seafloor. At GC955, we deployed 21 OBS for a period of approximately 6 days and acquired approximately 400 km of streamer data. At WR313 we deployed 25 OBS for a period of approximately 6 days and acquired approximately 450km of streamer data. The purpose of this data acquisition is to extend high-resolution site-characterization away from the on-site boreholes where extensive LWD data have been acquired, and to develop methodologies for use in gas hydrate studies at other sites.
