FDSN code XT (2018-2020) Network name Cifalps (China-Italy-France Alps seismic transect) - 2 (Cifalps-2)
Start year 2018 Operated by
End year 2020 Deployment region
Description

Transect of 56 broadband instruments across the northwestern (European) Alps.
Scope: seismic imaging of the crust and upper mantle of the NW Alps; we are particularly interested in the suture region between the european and Apulian plates between the east of the Mont-Blanc massif and the Ivrea region.
The transect crosses the NW Alps from the eastern border of Massif Central (Mâcon; France) in the west to the coast of the Ligurian Sea (Genova, Italy) in the southeast, across the Mont-Blanc massif, the Gran Paradiso massif and the western Po plain. Station spacing: 7-10 km; 2 additional lines parallel to the main line in the Aosta region to get a 3-D image of the subduction complex.
