FDSN Network Information

FDSN code D5 Network name Sistema de Detección Microsismica de la Ciudad de México (SisDeMi_CDMX)
Start year 2026 Operated by
  • SisDeMi (SisDeMi), Mexico
End year - Deployment region Mexico
Description

Network used by the Sistema de Detección Microsismica de la Ciudad de México (SisDeMi_CDMX), able to make quick analysis automatically and independently of earthquakes (or better called Microsismos) occurred in Mexico City and surrounding areas, making calculations of magnitude, epicenter, depth and even make maps of intensity in a range within 20 minutes (or even earlier) until the Servicio Sismológico Nacional presents official information and analyzed by an expert.

The network will consist of 23 stations (possible expansion) belonging to SisDeMi, placed near active geological faults in Mexico City (to have fast and accurate information) and 130 stations (11 borehole stations) outside SisDeMi, belonging to institutes that already have stations installed in Mexico City (access is restricted to the Institution).

The purpose of the network is to analyze certain failures not yet studied and/or not yet visible that may generate biases in Mexico City.
