FDSN code 1H (2019-2019) Network name GEODES San Francisco Volcanic Field Nodal Seismic Experiment 2019 (GEODES-LSPE-NOD)
Start year 2019 Operated by
  • University of Maryland (UMD), United States of America
End year 2019 Deployment region -
Description

This project is designed to test field methodologies for geophysical deployments on planetary bodies. The main purpose is to conduct an analog study to the Lunar Seismic Profiling Experiment (LSPE) during the Apollo 17 mission at Cinder Lake in the San Francisco Volcanic Field through GILA-MONSTER (predecessor of NASA SSERVI GEODES). The four nodal seismic sensors followed the same geometry as those used for LSPE. The project builds upon previous exploration activities by NASA at SFVF, and the active source seismology will also be used to understand how similar investigations can be conducted on the Moon and Mars.
