FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 1B (2016-2017) Network name Knipovich Ridge Passive Seismic Experiment (KNIPAS)
Start year 2016 Operated by
  • Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), Germany
End year 2017 Deployment region -
Description

Network of 27+3 broadband Ocean Bottom Seismometers installed along Knipovich Ridge to record local seismicity connected with mid-ocean ridge spreading processes. 20 km instrument spacing, denser around volcano. Instruments stem from the German DEPAS pool plus 3 Polish OBS. 4 of the 27 instruments reoccupy locations of other sensors for an active seismic experiment on the central volcano. Recording period 11 months for longterm OBS and 1 month for short-term replacement. Sampling frequency mostly 50 Hz, 100 Hz near volcano on selected stations. Instrumentation: Güralp CMG 4T 60s-50Hz
