Dear FDSN steering committee members,
Please find attached an updated version of “Recommendations for DOIs for seismic networks”. It was presented by Javier Quinteros at the WG3 Meeting (see https://www.fdsn.org/media/wg/III/2023/WG3-2023-DOI-updates-Quinteros.pdf) on behalf of many institutions (e.g. GFZ, ETH, IRIS, RESIF, GEONET-GNS, NOA, ODC, ANU, and more), but wasn’t quite ready to be put to a vote at that time. Modifications have been kept minor with respect to the first version (http://dx.doi.org/10.7914/D11596), in order to facilitate adoption by data centres; a list of changes can be found in the last page.
It has been suggested that we have a one week window to read the documentation/proposal before voting. So please take a look at the proposal in the next week, and vote YES or NO for the FDSN to adopt these recommendations between Friday, November 24 and Friday, December 1.
Note that the intent is that the recommendations should be reviewed every two years to keep them aligned with the development of other initiatives (e.g. Datacite). Comments and suggestions for the next revision (in 2025?) would be collected and discussed in an FDSN GitHub repository created for this purpose.
If the steering committee unanimously votes YES, the revised recommendations will be posted on the FDSN website and member organizations will be asked to follow through with implementation. If there are NO votes, we will attempt to address any objections raised before proceeding.
Thanks to Javier Quinteros for coordinating this important work.

Subject: [fdsn-representatives] DOI recommendations - vote Nov. 24 - Dec. 1

UNCLASSIFIED - NON CLASSIFIÉ
Dear FDSN steering committee members,
Please find attached an updated version of “Recommendations for DOIs for seismic networks”. It was presented by Javier Quinteros at the WG3 Meeting (seehttps://www.fdsn.org/media/wg/III/2023/WG3-2023-DOI-updates-Quinteros.pdf) on behalf of many institutions (e.g.
Sincerely,
Nick Ackerley
