Dear colleagues,

is there any web service, web accessible xml, or plain text file, or database where the information of http://www.fdsn.org/citations/ is available in a machine readable way?

Hi Philipp,

FDSN has moved to use Digital Object Identifiers (http://www.fdsn.org/services/doi/) for citations, so a network's DOI should be considered the primary source for citation data. You can find this information on the page for each individual network (listed at http://www.fdsn.org/networks/), and there is also a tool that can take a list of network codes and output citations for each (http://www.fdsn.org/networks/citation/).

None of these provides exactly the same data, though, and not all provide machine readable output, so I'm not sure whether these meet your needs. If they don't, feel free to contact me with more details and I'll see what other options might be available.

    I'm not sure what you mean by multiple catalogs here, but the system is set up to have just one DOI for each network.

    At the present time the FDSN only issues DOIs for seismic networks. We do not mint DOIs for Earthquake Catalogs. That is certainly something that would be reasonable for one of the parametric centers to undertake however (NEIC, ISC????)

hello Philip and everybody,

we've a similar need working with the European Strong-motion database.

The closest thing to a machine readable file we've found is the xml file
that is mentioned at the bottom of the webpage http://www.fdsn.org/networks/

However, the file is lacking non-doi citations and other useful basic
details
such as network start/end dates (especially useful for temporary networks).

Our proposal to FDSN WG1 was to extend the current file format, wich should
be
painless since the file is not following any strict standard except vanilla
xml.
