Geology: INK is located on Palaeozoic sediments and Cambrian limestone near the mouth of the MacKenzie River, on the geologic boundary (Richardson Fault) separating Cordilleran structures to the west from undeformed sequences to the east.
Vault Conditions: Reinforced concrete vault on surface bedrock exposure and completely hilled over with overburden.
Site Description: INK is located about 100 km north of the northern edge of the Richardson Mountains seismic zone, a highly active region (7 events in 1993 in an area 80x250 km) enclosed by the larger and less active MacKenzie Mountains zone (13 events in 1993 in an area approximately 1000x2000 km). About 200 km to the north is the Beaufort Sea where there were 10 seismic events in 1993 between ML=2.1 and ML=4.0.
