Description

Broadband instruments were deployed 2 weeks after the start of a major seismo-volcanic crisis in the northern Afar depression. Stations were deployed on the only roads and tracks in this very remote, harsh region, allowing us to enclose the active volcanic vent within the outer ring. A second inner ring of instruments were located within 0.5 - 4 km of the vent, with access provided by military helicopter. These inner stations may have to be moved in 2 months, depending on helicopter access. The project aims to locate volcanic, hybrid, and tectonic events, and to assess whether the..
