FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YJ (2001-2003) Network name Ethiopia-Afar Geoscientific Lithospheric Experiment (EAGLE)
Start year 2001 Operated by
End year 2003 Deployment region
Description

The EAGLE Phase 1 experiment consisted of the deployment of c. 30 broadband seismometers for a period of 16 months over 250 x 250 km^2 are of the northern Ethiopian Rift. The primary aim is to improve images of the crust and upper mantle in an area of transistion from continental rifting to incipient oceanic spreading in Afar using P & S-wave tomography, receiver functions and S-wave splitting.
