Description |
Funded by the Government of Western Australia and managed by the Geological Survey of Western Australia, WA-ARRAY is designed to investigate crustal and lithospheric mantle structures, with the primary goal of identifying prospective regions for mineral exploration, particularly in undercover areas. Given WA’s rich Precambrian tectonic history, WA-ARRAY will also offer a unique opportunity to study lithospheric structures related to early Earth tectonics and evolution. WA-ARRAY will deploy a series of temporary arrays consisting of 165 seismometers arranged in a grid pattern with 40-km station spacing. Over a 10-year period, WA-ARRAY will cover the entire state (more than 2.5 million square kilometers) with 1600 sites, making it one of the largest passive seismic programs ever undertaken. Please consider citing WA-ARRAY as Murdie et al., 2024 when using the data: Murdie, R. E., Yuan, H., O'Donnell, J. P., Johnson, S. P., Ebrahimi, R., & Rashidifard, M. (2024). WA Array: A High-Resolution Passive-Source Seismic Survey to Image the West Australian Lithosphere. Seismological Research Letters. https://doi.org/10.1785/0220230415 Nov 2024 Update (first-year data release): 1 The first year’s data (from Dec 2022 to Dec 2023) is now available at AusPASS (see link below). 2 A special volume in Tectonophysics has been arranged to support the use of WA-ARRAY data in studying the cratonic lithosphere. Further details will be announced soon. |
