Description

The Romanian Infrasound Network (RIN) is a permanent network operated by the National Institute for Earth Physics (NIEP). The main scope of the network is continuous monitoring of the infrasound generated by anthropogenic and natural acoustic sources. RIN consists of two stations:
(1) IPLOR, installed by NIEP in 2009 in the central part of Romania (at Plostina, Vrancea county), as a permanent 6-element array of 2.5 km aperture. In November 2028, the station has been discontinued for redesigning and since December 2019, the new IPLOR configuration consists of four elements distributed over a 0.6 km aperture.
(2) BURARI, deployed under a joint effort of Air Force Technical Application Center AFTAC (USA) and NIEP in 2016, in the northern Romania (in Bucovina, Suceava county), as a temporary four-element array of 1.2 km aperture. In September 2019, the station status turned into permanent, by installing a 6-element configuration distributed over a 0.7 km.
Between 2016 and 2018, a temporary PTS portable infrasound array (I67RO) has been deployed in the western Romania (Cluj county), within a collaboration project between NIEP and PTS of the Preparatory Commission for CTBTO. This station comprised four elements, which have been distributed over a 0.7 km aperture.
The data collected by the RIN are continuously recorded and transmitted in real-time to the Romanian National Data Centre, hosted by NIEP, where they are processed and analyzed.
