FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 8M (2024-2024) Network name McDonald Dunn Research Forests (Trees and forests as seismic dampeners)
Start year 2024 Operated by
  • University of Oregon
End year 2024 Deployment region -
Description

We will install two arrays of 10-15 nodes across a mature forest/clear cut region, to understand the possible amplification or dampening of a forested region during a quarry blast that may also exist during earthquakes. The ultimate goal is to understand how this may impact the likelihood of occurrence of landslides in the Oregon Coast Ranges during large earthquakes, and how this affects our interpretation of paleolandslides as proxies.
