FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 5H (2017-2019) Network name Central Virginia and South Carolina seismic monitoring experiment (CVA-SC seismic monitoring)
Start year 2017 Operated by
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), United States of America
End year 2019 Deployment region
Description

The experiment will monitor on-going seismic activity in the aftershock areas of the 1886 Charleson, South Carolina earthquake and the 2011 Mineral, Virginia earthquake. The objective is to obtain high precision hypocenter locations and focal mechanism solutions, data that will allow us to test the hypothesis that both the central Virginia seismic zone and the Summerville, South Carolina areas are sites on long-term aftershock activity.
